About Us
The Community Bicycle Center (“CBC”) facilitates youth development programs that equip youth living in Biddeford and surrounding communities with life skills, physical health, mentoring, and asset-building experiences. We use hands-on bicycle maintenance, cycling, and community service activities to develop thriving attitudes, behaviors, and skills in participants. Staff and volunteers are guided by our vision of engaging people of all ages and backgrounds in experiences to improve their well being through bicycle experiences.
CBC targets middle school youth who are interested in the fun and freedom that bikes provide. CBC focuses on recruiting at-risk youth from the Biddeford school system, Biddeford Recreation Department, social service organizations, out-of-school programs, low-income housing developments, and community-based clubs and organizations. Contracted programs are offered to groups from surrounding communities.
Our indicators of success include
- increasing the number of developmental assets youth experience
- reducing bicycle-related injuries
- increasing bicycle helmet usage
- increasing the number of bicycle transportation trips
- and increasing access to safe bicycles.
