The Community Bicycle Center’s educational bike shop opens every afternoon, after school, for youth and community members to use and learn bicycle repair and maintenance skills. Kids and
adults work on their own bikes, recondition bikes for our community outreach projects, fix bikes that we lease through a developing micro-business, and maintain our instructional bicycle fleet. Youth are learning shop etiquette, observational and problem solving skills, conflict resolution skills, and the meaning of community service. Participants experience commitment, learn to advocate for themselves, and develop relationship and team building skills. In addition to drop-in bike shop use, summer programming includes cycling skills rides, girls/women only bike repair, and satellite location bike repair clinics. The CBC shop is open to all and supports clients from educational, business, social service, municipal, and community-based organizations.
