Our programs engage youth and adult community members in asset-building experiences through the following program activities that span accessibility to safe bikes, bicycle riding safety, and community service initiatives. We operate year-round and often six days a week with expanded programming during the summer months to meet the needs of kids during summer vacation.
Earn-a-Bike: Every weekday afternoon, our educational bike shop is open for youth to learn bicycle repair and maintenance skills while working on a bike for themselves, for a friend, or for one of our many community outreach projects.
Bike Part Art: Youth explore self-expression while creatively recycling bicycle parts into works of art. Participants learn the proper name and function of different bike parts while developing fine-motor, communication, and problem solving skills.
Bike Doctor: Through our highly visible, pedal-powered mobile bike repair station, older youth are able to teach younger kids how to repair their bicycles in the neighborhoods where they live.
Bike Monkeys Repair Program: This formal bike repair program joins mentors with mentees to learn bicycle repair skills, shop maintenance and safety habits, and community service projects. Youth involved develop a clearer sense of their goals and know they have adults committed to their success.
Cycling Adventures: During the summer months and shoulder seasons, CBC facilitates three co-ed rides and one girls-only bike ride ranging from five to 25 miles. Youth cyclists learn teamwork (especially on our tandem and quad bikes) while exploring their community by bicycle.
Bike to School: CBC facilitates a seasonal Bike to School program for select Biddeford Schools through local police department, volunteer, and school support. Participants practice alternative transportation strategies in the safety of a chaperoned environment.
Girls’ Empowerment Group: Girls develop positive relationships with women mentors and develop self-reliance skills through all-girls bike rides and bicycle repair classes.
Charity Cycling Team: Over the past 12 years, members of your youth/adult cycling team have trained, fundraised ($196,670) and cycled in the 180-mile, three day Trek Across Maine for the American Lung Association of Maine.
Many programs are provided through the generous support of the Maine Department of Transportation.

100% of proceeds support the Community Bicycle Center's free youth development programs for kids, especially those considered "at-risk."
Contributions to the Community Bicycle Center are deductible as charitable contributions pursuant to Internal Revenue Code section 170(C) (1)
