Earn-a-Bike

The Community Bicycle Center’s educational bike shop opens every weekday afternoon for children to learn life skills through repairing and maintaining bicycles. Kids work on personal bikes, repair and earn bikes, reconditioned bikes for community outreach projects, and maintain our instructional bicycle fleet. Participants learn life skills including shared shop space etiquette, observational and problem solving skills, conflict resolution skills, goal persistence, patience, personal learning styles, and the meaning of service above self. Participants experience commitment, learn to advocate for themselves, and developed relationship and team building skills.  As part of our bicycle safety education contract with the Maine Department of Transportation, the CBC provides free bicycle helmets to those in need. The CBC shop is open to all and supports clients from educational, business, social service, municipal, and community-based organizations.

Spring 2012 EAB Schedule:
