Volunteers play an important role at the Community Bicycle Center. We have a variety of opportunities to match your interests, skills, and ability to give time. Overview of Volunteer Opportunities:
After-School Program Volunteers: Commit a three-hour session regularly to assist young people in the after-school program, which teaches bike repair skills, community service concepts, respectful work habits, safe cycling skills, and healthy fun. Training in basic bicycle repair skills and effective mentoring practices will be provided. No mechanics experience neccessary!
Bicycle Donations Coordinator: supervise the use of the bike shop by members. Solicit and arrange for delivery of donated bicycles and parts. Evaluate and arrange the donated bikes for storage for the various Community Bicycle Center programs.
Board Members: Lead the CBC to becoming a sustainable organization, keep the ten core board responsibilities, actively participate in Board meetings, participate in strategic decision making process and implementing associated action plans, and participate in selected fundraising plan initiatives.
Cycling Team Mentors: Join our youth/adult Charity Cycling Team and ride in the Trek Across Maine for the American Lung Association of Maine. We need mentors to train, fundraise, and cycle along with youth cyclists in the Trek.
Fundraising Committee Member: Participate in either the special events committee or annual appeal committee. Assist in designing event, donor solicitation, design and committee action plan.
Gifts-in-Kind Coordinator: Develop and maintain relationships with gifts-in-kind donors (good and services) from the local, national, and international business community for tools, parts, supplies, and bicycle clothing. Keep donors/sponsors informed about the programs and the use of their products. Draft thank you letters.
Research for Grant Writing, Sponsorship: Perform background research for staff workers to write grants and investigate additional commercial sponsorship possibilities. This position offers flexibility in time and location.
Secretarial Support: Assist with essential data entry such a volunteer rosters, attendance times, and other working data.
Surveying: Coordinate and provide opportunities for volunteers to give feedback on performance of services with the Community Bicycle Center. One major means of gaining this information is through online surveys.
Your Interests: There are opportunities for additional programming mapped around your interests. If you have an idea about incorporating bikes/bicycling, discuss it with us!

100% of proceeds support the Community Bicycle Center's free youth development programs for kids, especially those considered "at-risk."
